Scott denies worst fears over Cats veteran's injury

Geelong triple premiership forward Tom Hawkins' career could be in serious jeopardy, after he suffered an innocuous ankle injury on Friday night.

The Cats went down to the Blues by 63 points at the MCG, with the loss their sixth in seven weeks.

Now, there are serious concerns for their veteran forward, who went down and was sidelined in the third term.

Hawkins was leading for a ball and just went down with an ankle injury, which looked to have possibly caught the turf or rolled underneath him.

He immediately limped to the bench and took no further part in the loss.

Tom Hawkins was on crutches at the end of the Geelong match against Carlton.

Geelong coach Chris Scott confirmed that the 35-year-old had been dealing with a toe injury, but his ankle issue was unrelated.

The coach also remained coy about Hawkins' condition when quizzed on Friday night.

"He had to come off with a foot issue. It's mid-foot," Scott said.

"He has had an issue with his toe but it is a fair way away from that."

Scott admitted that the medical team didn't yet have an official diagnosis.

"The experts we have don't know, so I certainly don't have anything more to add," he said.

But the two-time premiership coach was quick to shut down suggestions that could have been his final game in the blue and white hoops.

Tom Hawkins was forced off the ground at the MCG after injuring his ankle.

"They are not saying (he's done for the year) and I certainly don't want to say anything that alleviates the concern because we are concerned, but I don't want to jump to conclusions either," Scott said.

The Cats sit with an 8-6 record after 15 rounds.
