Keary linked to retirement backflip as club makes move

Veteran Roosters halfback Luke Keary looks set to reject an offer from Super League club Catalans after reports linked the star with a possible retirement backflip.

Keary announced earlier this year that his NRL career would come to a close at the end of this season, despite the fact that he was contracted with the Roosters until 2025.

Reports emerged in England overnight that Keary had been in discussions with Catalans coach Steve McNamara, a former member of the Sydney Roosters coaching staff.

The reports indicated that an agreement was close to being reached.

Wide World of Sports spoke with Keary's player agent, Paul Sutton, who confirmed the 32-year-old will retire at the end of the season and will not make the switch to Catalans.

Keary has been in excellent form for the Roosters this season and has been named in the extended NSW squad for both Origin games this year.

Despite his strong performances however, Sutton was adamant that the playmaker was happy with his decision to hang up the boots.
