Latrell's bonus Madge meeting for last-minute Blues pitch

Latrell Mitchell has one more on-field chance to audition for selection in Michael Maguire's NSW Blues team for State of Origin II.

But he's also got another golden opportunity to impress the rookie coach – a face-to-face meeting only 24 hours before sides are selected.

Mitchell and Maguire will both attend South Sydney's 10-year premiership reunion on Saturday afternoon.

Maguire was the Bunnies' head coach in 2014, and took the side to third on the ladder, before knocking over Manly and the minor-premiership winning Roosters side on their way to a 30-6 win over the Bulldogs in the grand final.

While Mitchell was still two years away from his NRL debut at the time – and six years away from joining Souths – all current Rabbitohs players will be in attendance.

Against the Titans last weekend, which was the first of two auditions ahead of game two selection, Mitchell was in peak form. He scored a try, assisted in three others and made a brilliant try-saving tackle in the second half.

Maguire is in need of a new centre after Joseph Suaalii was suspended for four games for his ugly hit on Reece Walsh in game one.

Andrew Johns has been among the league greats campaigning for Mitchell's selection, saying the Blues in game one lacked the "x-factor" he provides.

He declared him a "must-pick" for game two.

"Latrell just has to come in – there's no ifs or buts," he said on Nine's The Sunday Footy Show.

"There's rumours floating around that something happened pre-camp that he didn't talk to Madge or didn't turn up or something, who cares, just get him in there.

"He destroyed them (against the Titans) – he's just got to be there," Johns said.

Mitchell's second chance will come on Friday night when the Rabbitohs host the Broncos at Accor Stadium.

Game two teams will be picked on Sunday night, and then announced on Monday morning.
