World No.4 snubbed after 'simple question' jab

Media seemingly snubbed Elena Rybakina after she bristled at journalists for "simple" questions following her round one win at Roland-Garros.

The Kazakh was clearly frustrated by some queries in the press conference, which ranged from how she was feeling to her attire to the playing conditions.

"It's quite basic," she replied when asked what she needed to do to win.

"You need to work hard, do all the things usually you don't want to do.

"Simple question; simple answers," she said. "So, guys, something else?"

Rybakina was quizzed about her relationship with Aryna Sabalenka and a match they played some six years ago. She began answering before stopping herself.

"This I don't remember," she explained.

"I think no one will remember everything that happened five, six years ago.

"And as a person also… I don't know what to say, guys. So that's it."

Two days later, and no requests were reportedly made for Rybakina to make a press conference appearance after her 6-3, 6-4 second round win over Dutch player Arantxa Rus.

Rybakina spoke with two TV networks after the win and on court.

The Wimbledon winner came from 2-4 down to win the second set and avoid a third set decider.

"No one wants to play three sets and today I was 2-4 down so of course I was trying to focus, point by point," said Rybakina.

"I just pushed myself – because as I say, energy-wise, I was not that happy today with myself."

Rybakina will face Elise Mertens in the third round after she defeated Petra Martic.
