Swans star puts contract talks on hold as Eagles swoop

Sydney star midfielder Chad Warner remains in no hurry to renew his contract with the Swans, as interest from his home state of WA continues to grow.

The 23-year-old is yet to sign on long-term, as his value skyrocket with the table-topping Swans sitting at 10-1 heading into their bye in round 12.

It's a worry for Sydney, who have reportedly already tabled a deal for the midfielder.

Warner is still contracted for another 18 months.

The delayed discussions have allowed West Coast to get their offer in order.

Warner is a Swans fan favourite.

Eagles general manager Gavin Bell has expressed genuine interest in the young gun.

"If Chad wishes to return to Perth at any point to continue his career, we would love to have him play at our club," Bell told The Sydney Morning Herald.

"We are aware that Chad has 18 months left on his current contract with Sydney.

Warner is yet to miss a game, quickly climbing the ranks as one of the favourites to nab the 2024 Brownlow Medal.

He is averaging 24.6 disposals and has kicked 19 goals so far.

Heading into the bye, Sydney sit on top of the AFL table, six points clear of Essendon.
