'All lies': Star rubbishes NRL great's bold claim

Storm halfback Jahrome Hughes rejected claims he wants out of Melbourne to move to a Queensland club, following rumours about his future.

Last month, Broncos great Corey Parker revealed SEN Radio that he'd heard whispers that Hughes wanted to move back to Queensland for family reasons.

Hughes, who's currently sidelined with a calf injury, signed a four-year deal with Melbourne in 2022 worth reportedly more than $800,000 per year, is contracted with the Storm until 2026.

He started his career at the Titans while also playing for the Cowboys before solidifying his spot in the halves at the Storm in 2017.

In response to the rumours, Hughes rubbished the claims.

"They are all lies," Hughes told AAP.

"If I have my way I will be staying in Melbourne for the rest of my career. That is what I am trying to do, but there is no hurry. I still have two more years after this on my contract."

According to The Sydney Moring Herald, Storm officials are keen to keep him at the club for the length of his career, suggesting he could sign until the end of 2028.

Parker did not mention any specific Queensland team that could be a leading contender for his signature, but only that he had heard "rumblings".

"I'm hearing rumblings that one superstar in the game wants to come home to Queensland and be with the family," Parker said.

"That player is Jahrome Hughes. Whether that's at the end of his contract or not, that remains to be seen.

"I know his wife is from the Gold Coast and at this stage, it's just rumblings that I'm hearing," he added.

"It remains to be seen if it's before his term of contract or not, but watch this space."
