Pie's brain fade dampens historic win over Blues

Collingwood goal sneak Lachie Schultz could face MRO scrutiny for a brain fade against rivals Carlton in their six-point win at the MCG on Friday night.

Schultz was caught and punished by the umpire after he retaliated against Carlton's Blake Acres before the ball was thrown back into play.

He struck Acres in the back on the neck with his hand, causing the umpire to pay a free kick against Schultz.

The act put a dampener on the Pies mighty six-point win over the Blues.

"Did he not see the umpire there?," Melbourne great Garry Lyon asked on Fox Footy post-game.

Schultz hit back after an initial push from Acres.

"Not that we encourage this at all, but the guy in the yellow – that's the umpire."

It was an act in response to Acres pushing him as they jogged back into play.

The bump could likely be graded as intentional and low impact, which could see Schultz sidelined for a week.

He is at risk of missing the Pies clash against West Coast at Marvel Stadium on Sunday.

The 26-year-old, who was traded to the Pies from Fremantle in the off-season, has been finding his feet in the first few rounds, kicking nine goals from eight games.

Collingwood enters round nine with a 4-3-1 record.
