Raiders win after 'one of the plays of the season'

Raiders second-rower Elliott Whitehead has been hailed for "one of the best try-assists ever" during his side's incredible 26-24 win over Manly.

With Canberra down 20-0 late in the second half, Whitehead plucked off an intercept before producing a flick pass to Kaeo Weekes who burst through to score.

"One of the plays of the season, an inside, outside fake, he's on his knees and what a sublime flick pass that is to Kaeo Weekes," he said.

"That's one of the best try-assists you are ever likely to see."

Manly were out to a fast start, leading 20-0 after 26 minutes with tries to Tom Trbojevic, Tommy Talau, Daly Cherry-Evans and Reuben Garrick.

Garrick's try came after Raiders fullback Albert Hopoate was sin binned for consistent penalties. However, down to 12-men, Whitehead produced the flick pass to get his side on the board.

Nick Cotric then scored a centimetre perfect try, tip-toeing across the line after a bold Weekes kick.

Canberra continued to attack and with four minutes left, Ethan Strange grubbered behind the defence as Hudson Young dived in to score the winner.

The Raiders may have one concern however, with Emre Guler on report for a high shot, while Nathan Brown was also hit with the same sanction for placing his weight on the legs of Josh Papalii.
