Aussie prodigy smashes insane record with 'gnarly' jump

19-year-old Australian snowboarding prodigy Val Guseli has put himself in the record books yet again after an insane achievement in Switzerland.

The Red Bull athlete landed a record-breaking 11.5 metre jump off a 'hip' over the weekend, leaving his friends and team elated.

Guseli's jump is his second record, having claimed the highest air off Half-Pipe in 2021.

The effort at The Nines snow event in Schilltorn beat the previous record of 11.3m, with Guseli initially failing.

He then went again with an official confirming the 11.5 height, bringing about a raucous reaction.

"It's pretty amazing, I got back up the top and was told I was the new record holder. I wasn't sure exactly what the record was before I hit it, I was just going as big as I could," he said.

"I'd say it's the biggest 'hip' I've ever hit and the thing that's gnarly about it is when you first hit it, you already have to go big. Every time you do something, you always want some more so after I got the record I was like 'that's cool' but the ski record's still three metres bigger, so I want to aim for that."

Guseli is a bright prospect for Australia at the 2026 Winter Olympics as is one of the only snowboarders in the world to have a world ranking in all three disciplines – big air, slopestyle and halfpipe.

He has nine World Cup medals across those disciplines.

At the age of just 11, Guseli became the youngest snowboarder in history to perform a double backflip.
