Wild melee erupts as Bunnies' half suffers ugly injury

Exiled South Sydney half Lachlan Ilias could face a long stint on the sidelines after he was helped off the field during Rabbitohs' 26-20 over the Warriors in the NSW Cup, following an ugly incident with Freddy Lussick.

In the final play of the clash at Accor Stadium, Ilias kicked the ball with Lussick attempting a charge down. However, the Warriors' hooker connected with the leg of Ilias in the tackle — with a fractured tibia the early diagnosis.

Lussick was subsequently sent off with just seconds left on the clock.

With Ilias staying down for a significant period and appearing in serious distress, both sides then came together as a wild melee erupted.

As the referee attempted to control proceedings, Moala Graham-Taufa was marched to the sin bin for throwing a punch.

Rabbitohs coach Jason Demetriou went up the tunnel with Ilias, who had earlier scored the try that proved the difference.

He was later seen elevating his foot and using crutches.

The club told Fox League that at this stage they believe he has suffered a fractured tibia.

"No surprise it's a fracture. I'm sure I heard the snap from 20 metres away," Greg Alexander told Fox League.

Lachlan Illias suffered a leg injury in an aggressive charge-down attempt by Freddy Lussick.

"It looks like it was Freddy Lussick's knee that made contact with Lachie Ilias' leg and broke it."

Last week, Warriors five-eighth Luke Metcalf suffered the same injury after an innocuous tackle from Tyson Frizell.

He underwent surgery earlier in the week and is not expected to return until late in the season.

llias was playing his third consecutive game of reserve grade after he was dropped after round two.
