Aussie tradie impresses with first Super Bowl act

Aussie tradie-turned-NFL punter Mitch Wishnowsky made an excellent start to the 2024 Super Bowl, impacting with an excellent 54-yard punt from his first involvement for the 49ers.

His second punt was fumbled, making it a near perfect start for the Perth native, averaging over 50 yards with his two contributions and pinning the Kansas City Chiefs down their own end.

Wishnowsky contributed to the sustained pressure the 49ers exerted throughout the first half, eventually leading to the first touchdown of the game through running back Christian McCaffrey.

His strong form continued into the second half, too.

In the third quarter, Wishnowsky was averaging 45 yards on the punt, but gave it a massive boost with a perfect kick that forced the Chiefs deep into their own territory.

"You can't do it better than the Niners are doing it," ESPN colour commentator Louis Riddick said.
