Rassie Erasmus, the charismatic mastermind behind South Africa's consecutive Rugby World Cup triumphs, has been hospitalised following a "freak accident using a powerful detergent product."
South Africa Rugby issued the unusual press release on Saturday.
"Rassie Erasmus, SA Rugby's director of rugby, is recovering in hospital following a medical procedure for chemical burns sustained in a freak accident using a powerful detergent product," the release said.

"He is otherwise in good health and expects to return to fulltime working within weeks."
Erasmus was a loose forward for the Springboks before turning his hand to coaching.
Never far from the headlines, he guided South Africa to the 2019 World Cup title and was the director of rugby as the Springboks defended their title in 2023.
