Smith's injury scare after 'absolute belter' catch

Steve Smith has sent a scare through the Australian camp after he left the field with an injury on day three of the second Test.

Smith claimed a brilliant catch off the bowling of Josh Hazlewood, diving full stretch above his head to dismiss West Indies tail-ender Alzarri Joseph.

"That is an absolute belter, almost as if he caught it one hand, high above his head and it's flying off the outside edge," Australian cricket great Allan Border said on Fox Cricket.

Isa Guha also described it as "elite", while New Zealand icon Ian Smith also joined in on the praise.

"That's a pearler of a catch, it really is, sometimes we take it for granted when he drops the odd one but that is a harder catch than he made that look," he said.

After taking the catch, Smith was captured grimacing and clutching at his hip and groin region.

The opening batter then jogged off the field for treatment.

"He may have tweaked something because he's jogged off a bit gingerly," Ian Smith explained.

"That looked like a hip flexor," Guha added.

Smith appeared to allay any fears though, returning to the ground the next over.
