Tigers rising star poached on long-term deal

The good news for the Wests Tigers in recent weeks has come to a screeching halt, with exciting young winger Junior Tupou officially signing a three-year deal with the Dolphins for 2025.

The Tongan international has been a rare shining light at Concord in recent years, crossing for eight tries in 26 appearances in the NRL.

Tupou will join the likes of Herbie Farnworth, Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow and Jake Averillo in the Dolphins' outside backs cartel, giving the expansion club plenty of speed and X-factor in the long-term.

In a statement released on Friday afternoon, Dolphins CEO Terry Reader lauded the 21-year-old as a player with great upside.

"The signing of Junior adds even more depth to our squad as we look ahead to establishing ourselves as a strong club," he said.

"He is one of the most exciting young backs in the NRL at the moment so we will be excited to have him join our evolving roster.

"Junior is a powerful runner out of the back of the field so he will give us plenty of punch.

"At his age he also has plenty of room and time to improve his game, so we see him as a really valuable addition to the long-term future of the club."

Tupou recently made his debut for Tonga in their three-game series against England, while also representing NSW in the under-age competitions coming through the grades.

After starting off hot in their inaugural campaign, the Dolphins would ultimately finish in 13th spot and will now look to climb up the ladder in Wayne Bennett's final season at the helm.
