'No one is better to watch': Maxwell praises young batsman

Australian superstar Glenn Maxwell has declared young Melbourne Renegades batsman Jake Fraser-McGurk as one of the BBL's best, after the 21-year-old blasted a 21-ball half-century.

Fraser-McGurk couldn't help the Renegades overcome the Brisbane Heat at Marvel Stadium on Thursday night, but still impressed Maxwell, who recently scored one of the greatest double-centuries of all time during Australia's victorious ODI World Cup campaign.

It comes just months after the South Australian Redbacks batsman brought up the fastest-ever white-ball century, smashing 100 runs off just 29 balls in the Marsh One-Day Cup against Tasmania.

"No one in Australia is better to watch than Fraser-McGurk. Easily the most talented young batter in the country. His potential doesn't actually have a ceiling. #rooster," Maxwell posted to X, formerly known as Twitter, on Thursday night.

Fraser-McGurk went on to make 55 off just 23 balls, headlined by a whopping eight boundaries, seven of them sixes.

"He was playing a different game to everyone else," Mike Hussey said on Fox.

A humble Fraser-McGurk spoke after his side's six-wicket loss at the hands of the Heat, thanking Maxwell for singing his praises.

"There's a few other good ones. Ollie Davies, the Davies brothers and Harry Dixon on that bench as well. I've had a fair bit to do with Maxi, but thanks Maxi (Maxwell), cheers," Fraser-McGurk said on Fox.

He went on to unpack his game style for the BBL season, as he looks to further impress Australian selectors.

"Obviously can't really say it felt bad. Felt pretty good out there from ball technically two. It was good to get out there and hit a few big sixes for the crowd," he said.

"Same as what I've been thinking for the whole summer, watch the ball as hard as I can and purely just react, and back my instincts and stay as still as possible. And that's been working so far."

The Renegades now face the Hobart Hurricanes on Saturday at Blundstone Arena.
