New All Blacks coach Scott Robertson has got his man with superstar playmaker Beauden Barrett committing to New Zealand until the 2027 Rugby World Cup.
There were concerns the All Blacks would be light on for options in the crucial No.10 jersey when Barrett – who played fullback this year – and incumbent Richie Mo'unga announced they were taking up deals in Japan.
But while Mo'unga – who has signed with Toshiba Brave Lupus on a three-year deal – will be unavailable for Test selection, Barrett can be picked under NZ Rugby rules when he returns from Toyota Verblitz next year.

That leaves Robertson with a choice of Barrett, 32, or Damian McKenzie to run his team as the All Blacks start a new era under the champion Crusaders coach.
"Beauden brings an enormous amount of class to the table," Robertson said.
"He is the second most capped All Blacks back in history for a reason and to have his knowledge and experience in our game is a reflection of his loyalty."

Barrett, a two-time world player of the year who has 123 Test caps, will return to the Blues for Super Rugby in the 2024-27 seasons.
"It's a huge privilege to put on the black jersey and one I will never take for granted," Barrett said.
"I'm still really passionate about playing alongside my brothers Scott and Jordie for Coastal, Taranaki or the All Blacks so looking forward to adding value where I can on my return from Japan."
