Calls for NBA to ban 'unhinged' villain after ugly act

Golden State Warriors star Draymond Green could be set for a lengthy suspension after putting an opponent in a choke hold during a wild NBA brawl.

The incident took place in the opening minutes of the Warriors' clash against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday (AEDT).

Things kicked off after Green's teammate Klay Thompson got tangled up with Wolves forward Jaden McDaniels as the pair tried to run down the floor, with the pair engaging in a pushing match.

Timberwolves big man Rudy Gobert came into remonstrate with Thompson before Green ran in and put him in a choke hold, leaving the 216cm Frenchman gasping for air.

Warriors coach Steve Kerr could be seen pleading with Green to loosen his right arm, which was wrapped around Gobert's neck as other players, coaches and referees intervened.

Green, Thompson and McDaniels were all ejected, with the ejection Green's second of this week after he was also thrown out on Sunday against the Cleveland Cavaliers following another scuffle.

"Klay Thompson and McDaniels, what is going on with that? You've got a full-on fracas going on," said Warriors announcer Bob Fitzgerald.

"Draymond came in to defend Klay (and) this got out of hand very quickly.

"Look at Klay Thompson's jersey, it's ripped up. That's more than a scuffle," added colour commentator Kelenna Azubuike.

Following the incident, there were calls for the NBA to suspend Green, with The Athletic's Tony Jones labelling the four-time All-Star "unhinged in the last three games".

Green has been no stranger to controversial incidents throughout his 11-year career. He found himself in hot water last year after punching then-teammate Jordan Poole during a pre-season training session.

Green was also famously suspended during the 2016 NBA Finals after swinging at the groin of LeBron James.
