'A few fractures': Champion jockey in frightening fall

Champion jockey Hugh Bowman, who famously rode Winx from 2014 through to the horse's retirement in 2019, was rushed to hospital in Hong Kong on Saturday after suffering a horror fall from his horse Tuchel.

Racing overseas in the Class One Panasonic Cup (1400m), Bowman remarkably escaped catastrophic injuries when Tuchel faltered and fell.

Bowman posted an update to his social media on Saturday night thanking everyone for their messages while confirming he was OK.

"Thank you everyone for all the well wishes," Bowman wrote on X, formally Twitter.

"I have a few fractures, nothing too serious thank God."

However, the same could not be said for Tuchel who sustained fatal injuries and had to be euthanised by vets on the track.

Hong Kong jockey Keith Yeung Ming-lun was also caught up in the incident but was not seriously injured.

Bowman plummeted to the turf when Tuchel, the pre-race second favourite, broke down with 125m left to run and collided with Yeung's Find My Love.

The distressing scenes cast a pall over 21-year-old Luke Ferraris' win aboard Sauvestre, who did not see the accident from the front of the field.
