Why this photo had experts concerned over 'danger'

Concerns have been raised over Mitchell Starc's warm-up act after the fast bowler was rested for Australia's World Cup clash with Bangladesh.

The left-hander was captured wicket-keeping to the Australian bowlers as they warmed up but it failed to impress several former international cricketers.

"I know he's probably getting keeping lessons at home from (wife) Alyssa Healy," ex-Black Caps bowler Simon Doull said in commentary.

"He was actually wicketkeeping this morning to the quick bowlers, and I thought, 'That is fraught with danger'.

"You've got a couple of games left in the World Cup, and you've got the gloves on wicketkeeping to the quicks. If you get one on the end of your finger, I just didn't think that was overly smart."

Australian legend Matthew Hayden believes Starc should take every caution necessary when being rested.

"Not that I watch your forehead closely, but I saw it crinkle up, with one eyebrow raised," he said to Doull.

"You're having a day off, you have a day off, the last thing you want to do is break a finger."

Starc was rested for the team along with Glenn Maxwell as Sean Abbott made his World Cup debut and Steve Smith returned to the side.

The left-arm quick has yet to hit his straps in the tournament so far, taking 10 wickets at 43.90.

Former Australian captain Mark Taylor found the selection decision intriguing.

"That's interesting, saying he's been rested," he told Nine's coverage.

"He hasn't bowled that well in the last three games."
