Demons engaged in 'high level talks' over star's future

The Melbourne Demons are believed to be engaged in high level talks as speculation over the future of Clayton Oliver continues.

Reports emerged on Tuesday that the star midfielder could be on the outer after a frustrating 2023 season.

Nine's Braden Ingram revealed on Wednesday night that the Demons aren't commenting in great detail over the possible trade talks as they hold a meeting regarding the situation.

"They are deafening silent … so that's only served to fuel speculation," he told 9News Melbourne.

"Now it's believed the club is holding high level talks this evening (Wednesday) that could determine Oliver's future at Melbourne and there's a very real prospect that he could indeed be put up for trade.

"It's extraordinary things have reached this point given his seven-year contract is only now about to begin. Already in the past week the Demons met with Oliver in an effort to address his behaviour which some players and staff clearly have become concerned with."

'Attitude' questions behind Oliver trade stunner

The Adelaide Crows and Essendon Bombers have been suggested as possible landing spots for the three-time All-Australian.

Another option Ingram revealed could be the Gold Coast Suns but any chance of a trade with Ben King looms impossible with the forward set to ink a two-year extension.

"We know Melbourne's list team is currently in search for a forward but any attempts to prize Ben King out of the Gold Coast might fall on deaf ears," he said.
