NFCA Summer/Fall High School Top 25 Coaches Poll – Sept. 28, 2023

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Two more victories kept Buford undefeated and the No. 1 team in the NFCA Summer/Fall High School Top 25 Coaches Poll for a sixth straight week.

The reigning Georgia 7A champion (20-0) Wolves extended their win streak to 27 games with a 11-1 win over Dacula on Tuesday. Buford’s last defeat was a 1-0 playoff loss to Lambert in the Georgia Class 7A Super Regionals.

The Wolves, who have been the top team in the poll for nine weeks overall dating back to last year, host Mountain View — a team they’ve defeated twice already this season — later today.

Meanwhile, the five teams after them in the rankings remained the same. No. 3 Holy Family (19-1) did lose its first game of the season, 5-4 in eight innings to Chatfield on Saturday, but won its two other contests to keep its position. Second-ranked Gretna (24-1) added three wins to its ledger, while No. 4 Caddo (31-2) and fifth-ranked Eaton (17-1) both posted 4-0 weeks, and No. 6 Blue Springs South (19-2) collected two more victories.

One-loss schools Owasso (29-1-1) and Washington (26-1-1) each gained one place, ahead of poll newcomer Lassiter (18-1) at No. 9. Riverdale Ridge (16-2) rounds out the top 10.

The two other new schools in the rankings, Raymore-Peculiar (22-1) and East Coweta (22-2), occupy the No. 11 and 12 spots, respectively. Houston County (18-3) dropped 10 places to 17th following a Saturday loss to Parkview.

State rankings submitted by the 2023 NFCA High School Steering Committee are used to compile the NFCA Summer/Fall High School Top 25 Coaches Poll. Teams are chosen based on performance, roster quality, strength of schedule, and active NFCA membership. Five states — Colorado, Georgia, Nebraska, Oklahoma and Missouri — play a fall fastpitch schedule, while Iowa recently completed its summer season.
