Wade banned after furious reaction to missed boundary

Cricket Australia has handed Matthew Wade a two-game ban after the veteran slammed his bat into the pitch during Tasmania's Marsh Cup match against Victoria on Monday.

The former Test player was seen angrily slamming his bat on the ground after a straight drive failed to pierce the gap in the field and was stopped by an opponent.

Wade, who remains in the frame to be part of Australia's T20I squad for a five-match series against India in India at the conclusion of the ODI World Cup, made 25 off 51 balls, with Victoria going on to record a three-wicket win.

Compounding the loss, Cricket Australia announced they'd suspended him for two games for "abuse of equipment".

It was Wade's third "Level 1" breach of the Cricket Australia Code of Conduct in the last 18 months and his second suspension.

If he cops a fourth breach in the 18-month period, he faces a year-long ban.

During that time he has been hit with two charges of equipment abuse, and one charge relating to the use of an audible obscenity.

He will will miss Tasmania's next two Marsh Cup games – against NSW at Junction Oval in Melbourne on Wednesday, and against South Australia on October 8.
