Here's a photo that should warm the heart of every fan of the Newcastle Knights.
Snapped by a fan at a Newcastle eatery earlier this week, it shows superstar Bradman Best and his manager dining with Knights football manager Peter Parr and coach Adam O'Brien. Best's mother was also at the meeting.
And my spies in the Hunter tell me they weren't getting together to sample the variety of red wines on the menu.

Best comes off contract at the end of 2024 – which means that rival clubs can start negotiating with him for the 2025 season this November – a little over a month away.
Several NRL clubs are prepared to offer Best – one of the most damaging outside backs in the country – huge dollars to switch clubs.
But the Knights are attempting to head them off at the pass, signing the 22-year-old juggernaut to a long-term deal to stay in Newcastle for the next four to five seasons… at least.

No formal agreement was reached at the dinner – but it is getting close.
Expect an announcement from the Knights about Best's future within the next couple of weeks.
