AFL forced to act after Brownlow red carpet chaos

There was drama well before a single vote was announced at the Brownlow Medal, with the red carpet proving to be a hazard for guests.

The glamorous entrance is always a highlight of the AFL ceremony, but forced the league to rush into action on Monday night.

Due to the carpet being placed over a speed bump outside Melbourne's Crown Palladium, a number of guests stumbled on the way into the venue.

Brisbane Lions great Jason Akermanis' daughter even took a tumble, while Collingwood icon Nathan Buckley came close to losing his footing.

Brisbane Lions great Jason Akermanis' partner lost her footing due to a bump in the Brownlow Medal red carpet at Crown

"They've had to put it (the red carpet) over a speed bump in the driveway and once they saw a number of people stumbling as they went down this dip, the AFL dispatched a couple of staff members just to warn people what was coming up," Tony Jones told 9News Melbourne.

"It wasn't that great and there were a few nervous moments."

Collingwood star Nick Daicos is the favourite to take out this year's Brownlow, with Western Bulldogs captain Marcus Bontempelli and Port Adelaide star Zak Butters the other contenders.

Daicos, 20, enjoyed a stellar second season at the AFL level, averaging 31.1 disposals per game in 20 home and away games this season.
