Gould fumes as star accused of shoulder charge

Knights prop Jacob Saifiti has been put under the microscope after a big hit on Warriors winger Marcelo Montoya.

The NSW Blues representative put the shot on during the first half of his side's clash, whacking the opposition winger with no arms wrapped.

Nine commentator Mat Thompson then questioned if it was a shoulder charge.

"Oh, a big tackle! Was that a shoulder charge?" Thompson said.

Jacob Saifiti was accused of a shoulder charge on Marcelo Montoya.

"There was a bit of shoulder in it. The crowd thought there was."

Phil Gould then hit back at Thompson for the suggestion.

"Hard to tackle without your shoulders, Mathew," Gould said.

"Don't shoot the messenger," Thompson replied.

"That's not a shoulder charge," insisted Gould

Saifiti wasn't penalised by referee Adam Gee but could still have a case to answer if the match review committee deems it illegal.

The NRL outlawed the shoulder charge in 2012 and it comes with a potential suspension, depending on the severity.
