Knights to lose rugby convert after offer accepted

The Knights are set to lose former Olympic rugby union star Lachie Miller to the English Super League.

Leading British club Leeds Rhinos has made a three-year offer to Miller that the 29-year-old is believed to have accepted.

A 2020 Olympian in rugby sevens, Miller switched to league with Cronulla last year and looked good in a handful of games for the club.

He signed with the Knights this year, when the club decided to move marquee man Kalyn Ponga to five-eighth, and excelled in the fullback spot.

After the first five rounds of the NRL, Miller led the competition in tackle-busts and was making regular line breaks.

But when Ponga suffered a head injury playing in the line, the club opted to move him back to his former position of fullback, ending Miller's great start to the year as he lost his place in the team.

Several English clubs had shown interest in Miller, with Leeds coming up with the most attractive offer with a three-year deal starting in 2024.

Miller is contracted to Newcastle until the end of the 2025 season.
