Incredible feat Aussie will be chasing at world titles

Reigning world champions Kelsey-Lee Barber, Eleanor Patterson and Nicola Olyslagers headline a 67-strong Australian team named for the world athletics championships on Monday, less than two weeks out from the Budapest major.

A year after becoming the first woman to defend a javelin world championship gold medal in Eugene, Barber will aim for an historic three-peat when the major gets underway on August 19.

"In one word, it would be extraordinary (to win a third world title)," Barber said.

"Each year is such a unique journey to a major championship and this year is no different.

"It has come with highs and lows, so to go and potentially become a three-time world champion will be something very special."

A highlight of Athletics Australia's team announcement is 18-year-old Torrie Lewis, who's set to make her senior debut.

Lewis stormed to gold medals in the women's 100 metres and 200 metres at the Australian national championships this year.

Peter Bol has completed a series of races in Europe since his provisional suspension was lifted and the two-time Olympian is now set for his first run in green and gold since making his comeback from his false positive.

The 29-year-old will be joined in the men's 800 metres by Australian record-holder Joseph Deng and Canberra's Riley McGown, who won the men's national 800-metre title this year.

Rohan Browning will continue his pursuit of a maiden major championship gold medal when he lines up in the men's 100 metres, joined by Jake Doran.
