Sharks skipper faces ban for 'great tackle' gone wrong

Sharks captain Dale Finucane is facing a two week suspension for a dangerous throw on Blake Lawrie in their 52-16 win over the Dragons on Thursday night.

After tackling the Dragons prop low, Finucane lifted him clean off his feet, his shoulders first to hit the ground.

"That tackle got away from the Sharks … the Dragons don't like it one bit," Nine commentator Brenton Speed said.

Storm legend Cameron Smith praised the tackle, which landed Finucane a grade one dangerous throw charge with extra weighting for a third and subsequent offence.

Dale Finucane has been offered two weeks for this tackle on Dragons prop Blake Lawrie.

"Great conventional tackle, under the ball and went to put him to ground and over he went. He's top-heavy, Blake Lawrie," Smith said in commentary for Nine, before saying he expected Finucane could face a fine.

Lawrie came from the field for a HIA, but was cleared and returned to the field a short time later.
