Aussie all-rounder Ashleigh Gardner starred with the ball in hand to give the tourists a slim first-innings lead despite double century from Tammy Beaumont.
Gardner finished with figures of 4-99 from her 25.2 overs, as England was bowled out for 463, before Australia ended day three on 0-82.
After removing England captain Heather Knight late on day two, Gardner found the edge of Natalie Sciver-Brunt, breaking the long stand for Australia's third wicket.
Sciver-Brunt was fast-approaching triple figures when Gardner went quick and flat outside off and caught the edge of the England star, with Alyssa Healy taking the chance behind the stumps.
