Training mishap sends Haas scare through NSW camp

NSW giant Payne Haas has sent an injury scare through Blues camp after rolling his ankle in a training mishap.

While his teammates went through drills, Haas spent much of Friday morning in the grandstand overlooking Coogee Oval, lying on his back with his ankle elevated.

The Blues expect Haas to be available to train on Sunday.

"He trod on the boot of someone as he was running backwards, and he's gone over in his ankle, ″⁣ Blues adviser Greg Alexander said.

"It's a slight sprain. He'll ice and elevate it and be right to train on Sunday."

Payne Haas runs during a NSW Blues State training session at Coogee Oval.

Haas is one of just three props named by NSW for Origin I, with Junior Paulo and Tevita Pangai Jr. the others.

Haas is expected to start Wednesday night's game alongside Pangai, with Paulo to be injected from the bench.

Wests Tigers rising star Stefano Utoikamanu is also in camp as the Blues' 19th man.

Despite the relatively shallow front-rower stocks at coach Brad Fittler's disposal, the Blues don't plan to bring an extra prop into camp as a back-up to Haas.

The NSW side has a day off on Saturday before returning to training on Sunday.
