Tiger facing ban over act AFL is 'trying to prevent'

A pair of dangerous tackles are set to land Port Adelaide's Ryan Burton and Richmond's Nathan Broad in hot water with the AFL's match review officer.

Broad, a three-time premiership winner with Richmond, slung Adelaide youngster Patrick Parnell into the turf in the first quarter of his side's 17. 6. (108) to 10. 16. (76) win at the Adelaide Oval, leaving the 21-year-old dazed.

Parnell was immediately subbed out of the game and was replaced by Riley Thilthorpe.

"That is the sort of action we are trying to prevent because that can bring head injuries into play.

"It's not malicious, we know that, but it's the wrong action that we are trying to get out of the game."

Brisbane Lions champion Jonathan Brown admitted Broad would have "great regret" after seeing his opponent in the hands of Crows trainers.

"It's the second motion, second action. He's in trouble," Brown said on Fox Footy's coverage

"Very fair player Nathan Broad. You can get caught in the situation and things happen so fast.

"He'd have great regret and know the action and know the consequence of it.

"Nathan Broad knows he'll be expecting weeks on the sideline after that. It's going to be difficult to fight that."

Broad's tackle on Parnell came after Ryan Burton has slung Collingwood forward Jamie Elliott into the turf in similar fashion as the Magpies swept Port aside by 71 points at the MCG.

Collingwood champion Nathan Buckley called the move "too aggressive".

"Burton actually has him (Elliott) cold there, he can't move," he said.

"But because he's got the arm, he can't handball, he can't kick — you just had to lay him down on his hip to get the tackle. But it was too aggressive."
