Watch: Babar Azam’s brilliant catch as ‘Ball-Boy’ in 2007 against SA

Karachi: A rare video of Pakistan’s current captain Babar Azam is making rounds on social media in which he is seen taking a splendid catch as a ‘Ball-Boy’ in 2007.

This catch was mentioned by Babar too in Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) recent video where he recalls his journey as a ball-picker to leading the national side in Test cricket.

In the 5th ODI between Pakistan and South Africa at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, JP Duminy hit a six off Abdul Rehman while Babar made the catch look very easy as stated by legendary South African batter Kepler Wessels. Babar was placed behind the rope towards the long-on boundary.

“Well caught by the ball-boy I must say, he made that look easy. A good fieldsman required in this part of the world. Very nice catch,” Kepler said while doing commentary.

“To date, I still remember few words said by commentators when I grabbed that catch which gave me a lot of confidence,” Babar mentioned.

It must be noted that Babar will become the 34th individual to lead Pakistan in Test cricket on Tuesday when the home side takes on South Africa in the first Test at National Stadium, Karachi.
