Mitchell set to sign massive extension

South Sydney star Latrell Mitchell is set to sign a two-year extension to remain with the Rabbitohs.

Mitchell, who's entering the final year of his contract with Sydney, has agreed to a $1.75 million extension which will keep him at the club until the end of 2023 according to the Sydney Morning Herald.

The new deal will see the 23-year-old collect close to $875,000 per season.

The South Sydney fullback would've inked a deal earning him more than $900,000 a year, but it's understood the new contract reflects last week's NRL announcement.

The NRL recently announced a six per cent reduction to the salary cap as part of a revised collective bargaining agreement due to the impact put on by the coronavirus pandemic.

Mitchell last year in his first season with the Rabbitohs was reduced to just 14 games after suffering a hamstring injury which ended his season.

The Sydney Morning Herald also reports the Penrith Panthers are close to retaining playmaker Jarome Luai on a three-year, $2.2 million extension, while the player agent of Eels star winger Maika Sivo recently emailed rival clubs seeking expressions of interest for 2022.
