'Classless' NFL rookie slammed over big hit

New York Giants defender Kayvon Thibodeaux has been criticised for his conduct after a big hit, where he appeared to celebrate as he lay next to an injured opponent.

Late in the second quarter, Thibodeaux hit Indianpolis Colts quarterback Nick Foles from the blind side, and lay on the ground next to the quarterback doing 'snow angels' in celebration.

Foles would eventually be carted off the field and did not return.

Of course, it's extremely unlikely that Thibodeaux had any idea of the situation – which he confirmed to reporters afterwards.

"When I did realise that he was hurt, that's when we started getting up," he said.

"When you're doing a celebration, you're not looking to see who's doing what.

"But I hope he gets well and I hope he's all right."

But the rookie then came underfire for his actions after the play, where he was filmed doing a 'go to sleep' celebration – a strange move given it was a Giants home game.

It was an otherwise fantastic afternoon for the Giants, who clinched their first play-off appearance 2016 – and will be hoping to win their first post-season game since the Super Bowl in February of 2012.

As for Foles – who won the Super Bowl with the Eagles in 2018 – it could be the end of his season, with just one game to go and the Colts out of contention.

"I know ribs, but no more than just the ribs right now," coach Jeff Saturday said.

"We still got one more week," Saturday said.

"I've got to keep these guys playing good football for the last week and try to get a win and finish this season off in the right way."
