Aliya’s 83 goes in vain as Pakistan loses second ODI to South Africa

Durban: Aliya Riaz fought hard for Pakistan with her 81-runs knock but South Africa managed to win the second ODI by 13 runs to gain a 2-0 lead in the three-matches series.

Set to chase 253 runs in 50 overs, Pakistan lost two wickets for just 17 runs, Muneeba Ali got her second duck in the series while Nahida Khan made just eight runs.

Omaima Sohail then partnered with skipper Javeria Khan to score 41 runs but Javeria couldn’t hold herself long at the crease and went back after scoring 13 off 26. Omaima made 41 with the help of eight boundaries.

Nida Dar (51) and Aliya (81) struck rhythm gaining a partnership of 111 runs for Pakistan but they failed to finish off well. Fatima Sana, in the end, tried hard to get her team over the victory line but South African bowlers got held the situation tight.

Ayabonga Khaka took four wickets for 40 runs while Marizanne Kapp bagged three. Shabnim Ismail took a wicket for South Africa.

Earlier, Marizanne shined with the bat and scored 68 runs laced with 10 boundaries and a six to help South Africa post 252-7 in given overs. Lizelle Lee contributed 47 runs off 50 balls including eight boundaries.

Diana Baig and Nashra Sandhi took two wickets each for visitors.
