Archer, Stokes return as England confirms squad for first two Tests against India

Stokes and Archer promise bright England Test future

Karachi: England have announced their 16-man squad and six traveling reserves for the first two Tests against India.

All-rounder Ben Stokes and pacer Jofra Archer have returned after being rested from the Test series against Sri Lanka. Opener Rory Burns also named to the squad as he was at home for the birth of his first child..

Middle-order batter Ollie Pope will travel to India and will be added to the squad when passed fit. Pope is recovering from a shoulder injury sustained in September during the Test series against Pakistan.

Jonny Bairstow, Mark Wood, Sam Curran, part of the Tests against Sri Lanka, are rested for the first two Tests.

England Squad:

Joe Root (c), Jofra Archer, Moeen Ali, James Anderson, Dom Bess, Stuart Broad, Rory Burns, Jos Buttler, Zak Crawley, Ben Foakes, Dan Lawrence, Jack Leach, Dom Sibley, Ben Stokes, Olly Stone, Chris Woakes.

Meanwhile, India had also announced their 18-member squad for the first two Tests. Regular captain Virat Kohli returned to the side after missing three Tests against Australia due to the birth of his first daughter.

India squad:

Virat Kohli (C), Ajinkya Rahane, Axar Patel, Cheteshwar Pujara, Hardik Pandya, Ishant Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, KL Rahul, Kuldeep Yadav, Mayank Agarwal, Mohammed Siraj, Ravichandran Ashwin, Rishabh Pant (WK), Rohit Sharma, Shardul Thakur, Shubman Gill, Washington Sundar & Wriddhiman Saha (WK).

It must be noted that both teams are scheduled to play the four-match Test series. The first two Tests will be played at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai.
