Durban: Pakistan women’s team head coach David Hemp is confident that the other members of the side will step in the absence of regular captain Bismah Maroof.
Hemp is on his first assignment in South Africa, where the Girls in Green will take on South Africa in limited-over series. While talking to reporters via virtual presser, Hemp believes that the batters in middle-order will grab the opportunities.
“Losing your captain is a big loss and it’s unfortunate because of the experience she brings into the side,” she said.
“But besides this, the key thing to me that it gives new faces to step up. It also gives us a chance to look at someone else,” he added.

Meanwhile, Hemp revealed the team’s approach will be of winning all six games (3 ODIs, 3 T20Is) but the main priority is the 50-over format.
“Our first priority is to win all six games but we are looking most at the 50-over format as we need the best opportunity to qualify for June-July World Cup Qualifiers in Sri Lanka and then in February in New Zealand [50-over World Cup].
During the presser, hemp was asked to share his thoughts on the lack of power hitters compared to other women’s teams.
“We have players who can clear the ropes but we don’t have as many compared to other countries around the world. For me, power-hitting is more about confidence and hitting in pockets [gaps] as suppose to clearing fifteen rows back,” he concluded.
The squad has started to train collectively after returning negative in the second COVID-19 Test. The first ODI between Pakistan and South Africa will take place on January 20 at Kingsmead Stadium, Durban
