Record-breaking three centuries drive SP to convincing win over KPK

Karachi: Mukhtar Ahmed, Sohaib Mqasood, and Hussain Talat scored a century each to help Southern Punjab (SP) chase down 317 runs against Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) in their fifth match in Pakistan Cup. 

Set to chase 317 runs, SP lost Umer Siddique earlier on the sum of just 13 runs. But, who knew a record breaking day awaited SP. Their three batters scored a century each, and it happened for the first time in the history of List A.

Mukhtar and Sohaib scored 173 runs together to take SP from 13-1 to 173-1. Sohaib scored 101 runs off 58 balls with the help of 11 boundaries and seven sixes before falling to Asif Afridi.

Mukhtar then carried the inning with Hussain Talat and scored 143 runs alongside him. Hussain made 100 runs with the help of five boundaries and seven sixes while Mukhtar remained not out for 108 runs off 109 balls laced with 11 boundaries and three sixes.

Imran Khan Sr and Asif bagged a wicket each for KPK.

Earlier, KPK posted 316-9 in 50 overs thanks to skipper Khalid Usman who smashed 91 runs off 74 balls with the help of five boundaries and six maximums.

Mohammad Haris scored 68 runs with the support of eight boundaries and a six.

For SP, Ali Shafiq took three wickets while Mohammad Imran bagged two wickets.

Meanwhile, Sindh defeated Northern by seven wickets to gain the first position at the points table. Sharjeel Khan scored 108 runs to help Sindh chase 187 runs in 28.1 overs. His firepower knock included 13 boundaries and five sixes.

Khurram Manzoor contributed 52 runs in Sindh’s successful run chase.

For Northern, Hammad Azam picked up two wickets.

While batting first, Asif Ali (66) and Sohail Tanvir (49) drove Northern to 186-10. Mir Hamza and Danish Aziz took three wickets each.

On the other hand, Central Punjab (CP) won their second consecutive match by defeating Balochistan after chasing 214 runs for the loss of six wickets. Qasim Akram made 60 runs off 72 balls with the help of seven boundaries.

Raza ul Hasan picked highest four wickets for Balochistan.

Earlier, Balochistan’s batting was supported by Kashif Bhatti (59) and Jalat Khan (55) as they posted 213-10.

Usman Qadir bagged four while Ahmad Bashir and Kamran Afzal took two wickets each for CP.
