Aleem to officiate first Test in Pakistan, Ahsan to make Test umpiring debut

Lahore: Aleem Dar will be standing in his first Test at home as the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced match officials for Tests and T20Is against South Africa.

In consultation with International Cricket Council (ICC), PCB has named Aleem, Ahsan Raza, Asif Yaqoob, and Rashid Riaz as umpires for two-matches Test series against the Proteas.

Ahsan, who has officiated 37 ODIs and 57 T20Is, will be making his Test umpiring debut. Mohammad Javed Malik will also be making his Test debut as match referee. Malik, a former first-class cricketer and a member of the ICC’s international panel, has refereed in 10 ODIs and six T20Is.

In both Tests in Karachi and Rawalpindi, Aleem and Ahsan will be on-field umpires while Asif and Rashid will be the third and fourth umpires, respectively.

For the three-match T20I series, Javed Malik will continue to be the match referee, while Aleem and Ahsan Raza will be the on-field umpires for the first match with Shozab Raza in the TV umpire’s box and Asif Yaqoob as the fourth umpire.

Shozab Raza and Asif Yaqoob will stand in the second T20I with Ahsan Raza and Rashid Riaz as third and fourth umpires, respectively, while Aleem Dar and Rashid Riaz will be the on-field umpires for the third T20I with Ahsan Raza and Shozab Raza as third and fourth umpires, respectively.

Remember, ICC had temporarily changed playing regulations following the COVID-19 pandemic, and that put restrictions on appointing third country officials. The ICC, however, continues to appoint locally based match officials from the ICC Elite Panel of Match Officials and the ICC International Panel of Match Officials.
