New Zealand’s Sophie Devine smashes fastest T20 hundred in women’s cricket

Karachi: New Zealand women’s team captain Sophie Devine smashed the fastest century in women’s T20 history in a domestic match for Wellington Blaze.

The 31-year-old reached her hundred in just 36 balls, beating the record held by West Indies’ Deandra Dottin, who made a 38-ball century in 2010.

In her unbeaten 38-ball 108, she struck nine sixes and nine fours as Wellington chased 129 in 8.4 overs to thrash Otago Sparks by 10 wickets in the Super Smash in Dunedin.

Sophie was making her return as she ended two weeks’ quarantine four days ago, having returned from Australia after playing for Perth Scorchers in the Women’s Big Bash League.

It must be noted that Chris Gayle holds the record for the fastest century in men’s T20 cricket. He hit 30-ball hundred in 2013.
