Farhan’s energetic 155 leads KP chase down 378 against Balochistan

Karachi: Opener Sahibzada Farhan blazed a massive 155 to lead Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to chase down 378 runs against Balochistan while Asif Ali’s smashing ton helped Northern beat Southern Punjab in the Pakistan Cup.

On the other hand, veteran Khurram Manzoor scored his 25th List-A century to help Sindh to a comprehensive six-wicket win over Central Punjab.

Balochistan vs Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

Balochistan posted a hefty 377 after Imran Farhat opted to bat first at the State Bank Stadium. Opener Bismillah Khan scored 92 off 90 balls (five fours, four sixes).

Middle-order batsmen Awais Zia and Akbar-ur-Rehman also batted at a high scoring rate, smashing 66 and 55 respectively.

Skipper Imran scored 77 off 68 balls while Ayaz Tasawar made a brisk unbeaten 38 off 16 balls. Irfanullah Shah and Arshad Iqbal took two wickets each for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Set to chase 378, Farhan produced an emphatic knock of 155 in 135 balls, powered by 15 fours and three sixes.

He partnered with Domestic Performer of the year, Kamran Ghulam and added 185 runs for the third-wicket Kamran contributed 81 off 68 balls

KP’s captain Khalid Usman took on the bowlers and scored 56 off 33 balls while off-spinner Sajid Khan blazed away with an unbeaten 27 off 15 balls. KP chased down the target with only four balls and two wickets to spare.

For Balochistan, Taj Wali took four wickets while Umaid Asif took two. It was KP’s second win in Pakistan Cup while Balochistan has registered a win only in three matches.

Northern vs Southern Punjab

Asif Ali’s blistering knock of 127 off 70 balls led Northern to beat Southern Punjab, their third consecutive win of the tournament.

Asif smashed 17 fours and five sixes to guide his side to a respectable total of 306/9 in 50 overs. Captain Mohammad Nawaz made 52 off 77 balls (five fours).

Pacer Muhammad Ilyas took four wickets for 61 runs while leg-spinner Zahid Mahmood took two wickets for 43 runs.

Mukhtar Ahmed was a lone warrior during Southern Punjab’s chase as he registered a sparkling century. He struck 12 fours and half a dozen off sixes in his 139 off 134 balls.

Mukhtar didn’t get enough support from the batters other than skipper Sohaib Maqsood who scored a quickfire 40 off 27 balls (seven fours, two sixes).

SP were wrapped up for 249 runs in the 46th over of their innings to hand Northern a comfortable 57-run victory.

Left-arm pacer Mohammad Ismail took three wickets for Southern Punjab while Nawaz, Athar Mahmood and Salman Irshad took two wickets each.

With this win, Northern are placed at the top with six points and three wins. SP have lost two and won one match.

Central Punjab vs Sindh

Sindh folded Central Punjab’s inning for 287 in 48.2 overs. Ali Zaryab top-scored with 68 off 73 balls while Tayyab Tahir contributed 52 off 63 balls

Captain Hasan Ali in his first match of the competition, smashed 44 off 28 balls which included two fours and four sixes.

For Sindh, pacer Mohammad Umar took four wickets for 59 runs while Saud Shakeel and Anwar Ali took two wickets each.

Khurram Manzoor’s 25th List A century guided Sindh to the target in the 47th over. The right-hander struck 10 fours and one six in his 120-ball innings.

He added 108 runs for the second wicket with captain Saud Shakeel who made 58 off 62 balls (six fours).

Asad Shafiq contributed 28 while wicketkeeper-batsman Azam Khan scored an unbeaten 29 and finished the match in his side’s favour in the company of Saad Ali who scored 10 not out. Bilal, Ahmed Bashir and Hasan took a wicket apiece

Central Punjab are now at the bottom of the table with three defeats in as many games while it was Sindh’s second straight win.

The fourth-round matches will be played on Thursday, January 14th.
