Glamour club makes unexpected bid for Benji

The Sydney Roosters are set to make a late bid to sign former Kiwi superstar Benji Marshall.

At 35, Marshall was considering retiring after not being re-signed by Wests Tigers at the end of last year.

Marshall has been shopped around throughout the NRL but up until now there hasn't been any takers.

But the Roosters are nervous about their halfback options and are attempting to get Marshall into their ranks for $150,000 for one season.

The club has doubts over Luke Keary's health following a series of concussions in the past two seasons.

They cut Kyle Flanagan at the end of last season and have two options in Sam Walker and Lachlan Lam – but both are young and lacking in NRL experience.

Marshall has a wealth of experience and would give the Roosters more options in attack.

While he has lost some of his pace, he remains a big match player and is keen to have one last season.

After he hangs up his boots, a TV commentary contract awaits.
