Pakistan Cup challenge, captains have a message for you

Karachi: Pakistan Cup, a 50-overs-format Pakistan’s domestic tournament is all set to start tomorrow here at three different venues. 

Six cricket associations will fight against each other in the tournament spread over 33 games in 23 days.

The tournament carries nearly PKR10million in prize money as the PCB continues to incentive top-performers. The tournament winners will bag PKR5million, while the runners-up will pocket PKR2.5million.

The best performers of the tournament – Player of the Tournament, Best Batsman, Best Bowler and Best Wicketkeeper – will equally share PKR1million amongst them and PKR800,000 will be handed to 32 players who receive Man of the Match award in group matches and semi-finals. The Player of the Final will receive PKR35,000.

Here’s what captains have to say before the tournament

Usman Khalid (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa -Defending Champions):

“We are mentally ready to defend our one-day title. After performing strongly in the recently concluded Quaid-e-Azam Trophy, we are looking forward to playing Pakistan Cup’s final too.”

Hasan Ali (Central Punjab):

“I need some rest after Quaid-e-Azam Trophy. I will join my team after a couple of matches but my team is all set to give a tough time to oppnents. We will win this tournament.”

Mohammad Nawaz (Northern):

“We have already started practicing for this tournament. It is a different challenge from red-ball cricket and we are preparing ourselves according to the scenerio. We have a blend of young and experienced players who will gell in to make us champions.”

Saud Shakeel (Sindh):

“We have depth in all three departments which will surely help us come up strongly in this tournament. We have quality batters, power-hitters, and variety in bowling which makes us a balanced side in this event.”

Sohaib Maqsood (Southern Punjab):

“We have 7-8 proper ODI batsman and they will definitely be a threat for other teams. The addition of Aaron Summers alongside some other fast bowlers will give us an edge over others in this extravaganza.”

Imran Farhat (Balochistan):

“Our focus is to deliver for our team to make it Pakistan Cup’s champion. We have some fighting players who showed courage in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy. We will try to continue some good performances into this tournament.”
