One change for Australian team in Sydney Test

Usman Khawaja will make his return to the Test team for the Sydney Test, while Australia will give Josh Hazlewood more time to recover, skipper Pat Cummins confirmed.

Speaking to reporters this morning, Cummins said that Scott Boland would retain his place in the side, as Australia resisted the temptation to bring in a second spinner in Mitchell Swepson.

Cummins said that Hazlewood, as well as Jhye Richardson, who impressed in Adelaide, were not 100 per cent fit.

"Joshy Hazlewood had a few bowls and Jhye (Richardson) was a bit similar," Cummins said, adding that they "gave Joshy every chance we could."

Hazlewood hasn't played since a side strain in the first Test.

"We just felt like he couldn't quite bowl at full tilt yesterday," Cummins said.

Khawaja's inclusion was all-but-guaranteed a few days' ago when Travis Head tested positive to COVID-19 and was ruled out of the contest.

The pair had battled for that coveted number five spot in the batting line-up, with Head getting the nod and immediately rewarding the selector's decision, with a man of the match performance in Brisbane.
