Bangladesh drop Mashrafe, Shakib returns for West Indies ODIs

Karachi: Former Bangladesh captain Mashrafe Mortaza has been left out of the team’s preliminary squad for the upcoming series against the West Indies while Shakib-ul-Hasan returns after serving his one-year suspension.

The 37-year old pacer who is Bangladesh’s most capped ODI player, captained his country in 88 ODIs before stepping down in March 2020 following a 3-0 home victory over Zimbabwe.

“It was a tough decision for us but we have to accept the reality and move ahead,” chief selector Minhajul Abedin said while announcing the 24-man squad.

“It’s a new beginning, and whoever comes in his place, it’s an opportunity for him,” he added.

Note, Windies are due to tour Bangladesh for three ODIs and two Tests and will arrive in Dhaka on January 10.
