Faizan, Nawaz steer Northern to 371-5 against KPK

Karachi: Faizan Riaz and Mohammad Nawaz struck centuries to help Northern take a grip over Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) on Day 1 in the Fifth Round of Quaid-e-Azam Trophy here at National Stadium. 

Faizan remained not-out for 124 runs off 162 balls while Nawaz made 121 runs off 146 balls to drive Northern to 371-5 on an opening day. They both put up a solid 219 runs partnership on the scoreboard.

Earlier, Nasir Nawaz provided a steady start to Northern after scoring 90 runs alongside his opening partner Sarmad Bhatti who scored 24 runs with the help of three boundaries. He scored 68 off 72 balls with the help of 11 boundaries and three sixes.

Sajid Khan bagged two wickets for KPK while Khalid Usman and Zohaib Khan took a wicket each.

On the other hand, Zain Abbas (69) and Umar Siddique (94) helped Southern Punjab (SP) post 272-5 on the scoreboard while batting first against Central Punjab (CP) in the Fifth Round of the event.

Salman Ali Agha scored 62 runs off 92 balls with the help of six boundaries and a six.  Waqas Maqsood and Ahmed Safi bagged two wickets each for CP.

Akbar-ur-Rehman smashed 155 runs off 194 balls with the help of 12 boundaries and nine maximums to drive Balochistan to 333-3 on First Day against Sindh. Ayaz Tawar made 67 runs off 173 laced with seven boundaries.

Shahnawaz Dhani and Abrar Ahmed took a wicket each.
