Sam Kerr among the 13 best players in the world

Australian superstar Sam Kerr has been shortlisted for the Best FIFA Women's Player award.

It's the fifth-straight year Kerr will be considered for the major award.

The news comes just days after Kerr signed a contract extension with English giants Chelsea, which will keep the Australian at the club until 2024.

She won last year's golden boot in the Women's Super League, scoring 21 times in 22 appearances.

Kerr in 2020 finished seventh in the voting for Best FIFA Women's Player award with 20 points, in what was the closest she has ever come to taking out the honour.

Through eight WSL appearances for Chelsea this season, she has nine goals to her name. She continued a purple patch of form with a hat-trick performance against Birmingham City yesterday.

She celebrated her third goal with a backflip.

"The most important thing for us was to get the win, finish out a hard block – a lot of away games, and to keep a clean sheet was really nice," Kerr said after the match.

"I'm really enjoying it. It shows in the way we're playing, we're all playing with a smile on our faces.

"Scoring a lot of goals is always fun… it's an amazing club and an amazing team. I'm enjoying it a lot."
