Karachi: Pakistan national women’s cricket team captain Bismah Maroof has withdrawn from next month’s tour to South Africa due to family reasons.
Bismah had participated in the training camp in Karachi since 20 December, before returning to Lahore on Wednesday to rejoin her family in Lahore.
The head of the women’s wing and chief selector, Urooj Mumtaz said that Bismah approached them to be exempted which was accepted by the,
“Bismah approached us with a request to be exempted from next month’s tour to South Africa for family reasons, which we have accepted. She was obviously disappointed to miss the series, but the family always has to come first,” Urooj said.
“When we’ll announce the 17-player squad on Thursday, we’ll name the stand-in captain as well for the South Africa tour, which comprises three ODIs and three T20Is,” she added.
It must be noted that the training camp for the South Africa tour is underway at Hanif Mohammad National High-Performance Center, National Stadium in Karachi.
The squad for the series will be announced on December 31 while the side will train till January 11. The Girls in Green will play three ODIs and as many T20Is from January 20 to February 3 in Durban and Pietermaritzburg.
