Mount Maunganui: Fawad Alam and Mohammad Rizwan’s unbeaten 62-run stand has kept alive Pakistan’s hopes of saving the first Test at Bay Oval.
With two sessions remaining, Pakistan are 137 for four with Alam on 48 and Rizwan 20.
New Zealand require further six wickets to win while Pakistan need 236 to chase an unrealistic 373-run target but things are moving towards a draw.
New Zealand started the day promisingly when Trent Boult enticed Azhar Ali into a drive only for the ball to angle away. A thick edge traveled to wicketkeeper BJ Watling and he completed the dismissal.
