Mount Maunganui: Tom Blundell and Tom Latham stretched New Zealand’s lead to 290 during a wicketless first session on day four against Pakistan at Bay Oval.
Blundell registered his second Test fifty of his Test career and is batting at 59 while Kiwis’ vice-captain Latham is at 36. Pakistan used six bowling options including Shan Masood but was unable to get a breakthrough.
New Zealand will now look to press up the scoring rate in order to provide bowlers maximum overs to bowl Pakistan out in the second innings.
It must be noted Pakistan bowled out for 239 in reply to New Zealand’s first-inning total of 431.
